Mobile Banking Performance Testing

Customer Context

Case Study Context

This case study outlines a Mobile Banking Migration Project, where the Mobile Banking service was being migrated from an external service provider to internal technical platform teams, bringing control of the service back internally in order to provide cohesion, ownership and accountability for the end-to-end Service.

Agenor completed a series of Performance Tests in order to validate the system against its non-functional business requirements, operational requirements/principles and the performance testing principles.

The Problem

A series of Performance Tests had to be successfully completed against a particular environment and build version. Performance Testing had to be completed both in terms of the Server Release deployed on the platform and the client handset builds on which the performance test script behaviour had been based.

The Goal

  • Complete 3 full cycles of Performance Testing with each cycle building on technical developments, refined volumetric data and other lessons learnt
  • Complete the Performance Testing to take account of a significant update on volumes for a 3 year growth period
  • Undertake testing based on "Normal" and "Peak" periods within the working day
  • Complete testing based on agreed Transactions Per Second (TPS) metrics

The Result

The Mobile Banking Platform achieved passes in all Performance Test requirements in order to support go live i.e. Workload Support, Interface response times and failure rate. The testing completed demonstrated that the Mobile Banking platform was able to process business volumes up to and including a Peak Hour demand and it is able to do so with response times below a 3 second average and with a rate of failure below the 1% threshold

Cycles of Performance Testing Completed
Individual sets of Performance Tests completed across the 3 cycles
Defects managed and resolved during the Performance Tests cycles
Agenor consultants completed testing over a 3 month period

 Summary

  • Multiple cycles of Performance Testing Completed
  • Performance Test completed based on 3 year future growth
  • Performance Test activities completed on schedule supporting Go Live
No customer disruption to any services were reported during the project. Agenor was able to provide consultants to this engagement who had specific experience in the Performance Tests that were required. Agenor's track record of driving delivery to ensure the Testing was achieved on budget and on time was further demonstrated during this engagement
