The Agenor Solution
Agenor take a holistic approach to addressing the Business Case for legacy migrations. We start from the premise that the traditional approach isn't going to "stack up" and that we need to adopt an innovative approach to the overall solution. The approach is based on looking for opportunities that strengthen the business case - by addressing not just the legacy challenges but exploring solution designs for the target environment that delivers multiple benefits.
We will work closely with our clients to:
- define the current cost model
- explore a range of solution design options
- define project and future operational costs
Server Consolidation
Can we reduce the number of servers across Development, Test and Production. This can be achieved in a number of ways, the primary options being as follows:
- Implement a highly shareable, strategic server platform that is capable of co-hosting multiple instances of application, database and other components.
- Virtualise the physical servers to enable multiple instances to co-exist on single server hardware or across a cluster of low-cost servers.
High Availability & DR
Our solution designs will always seek to deliver enhanced capabilities here. In recent years, the demands on organisations to improve availability of business systems and to implement business continuity services means that this is a key focus area for Agenor.
- Implement HA in a cost effective manner - typically by adopting Virtualisation techniques rather than expensive, traditional clustering approach.
- Implement DR is a cost effective manner - typically by adopting Virtualisation and re-purposing server hardware that is freed up as part of the server consolidation initiative.
Platform Transition
In our engagements, we often encounter a range of legacy systems on a wide variety of hardware and operating systems. We believe that this variety is the enemy of operational efficiency. As part of our Solution Design assessment, we will typically explore opportunities to standardise in the following way:
- Define a standard "pattern" for a small number of hardware and OS platforms.
- Standard patterns may include a common Unix OS and hardware combination or a VMWare based platform for all Windows OS and hardware combinations.
- Align all legacy systems to be migrated to a selected standard pattern.
In general, we seek a solution which results in fewer, simpler, and cheaper platforms, the aim being to reduce both capital costs and ongoing operational costs.
We strive to deliver a compelling Business Case that embraces the achievement of significant, positive change while articulating tangible financial benefits that justify the investment.
